History Of TBI

Early in the year 1910 Harry Cohen brought his family to Neshaminy with his revered Torah he'd brought all the way from Russia years before. On March 26, 1924, Congregation Tiferes B'nai Israel, which translated means "The Glory of the Children of Israel" was chartered in Bucks County. In 1943, Harry Cohen died and, though Jewish families had largely disappeared from the area, his sons, Wolf, Benjamin, Louis and Reuben, held regular Shabbat and High Holiday Services and financially maintained an active, though small Congregation. On October 18, 1957, the Jewish Exponent published an interesting article entitled "A Synagogue in Search of a Congregation" which included this statement: "We are chartered, free of any debt, with a surplus in our treasury. We are fully equipped and furnished, oil-heated, with some two thousand square feet of building space. We have a chapel that can seat one hundred fifty people, a meeting room, and a basement. We need members." The response was rewarding and it led to the rebirth of TBI. In the years that have passed until present, TBI has continued to grow and provide a warm and friendly spiritual community, Religious Services on Shabbats and Holidays for our members and the Jewish Community, as well as a Hebrew education for our children from pre-Kindergarten to confirmation.
